How do our NHS Assessments work?

Step Four
Patient Information Collection from the NHS Trust
We will review the information provided by the NHS Trust. This may include:
• Initial referral
• Previous Community Paediatric /multidisciplinary reports
• School/Parental reports and questionnaires.
Our assistant Psychologist will collect further information from educational placement (if attending) if necessary.
If a physical examination has not been carried out previously, one will be arranged at our Harley Street or Paddington Clinic. If your child is under five years old, we will also carry out a developmental assessment (Schedule of Growing Skills 2- SOGS-2).
Observation and Interactive Session
This starts with an observational assessment (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – ADOS-2 or equivalent), where certain objects/toys are used to assess your child’s social communication, interaction and play.
This assessment will be carried out by our Speech and Language Therapist or Psychologist and will be done virtually via our video platform or face-to-face at our Harley Street or Paddington Clinic, subject to your NHS Trust’s request.
Diagnostic Interview with Feedback
A 90-minute diagnostic video interview with the parent will take place with one of our Specialist Doctors (this will include questions relating to your child’s medical and developmental history).
During this virtual appointment, our Specialist Doctor will also observe/interact with your child in their home environment.
Following this, your Doctor will review all the clinical information from the previous assessments, as well as any additional information provided, and will feedback the outcome to you.
Post Diagnostic Care
If a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder is made, families will be provided with:
• Information about local Autism Spectrum Disorder support services (provided to us by the child’s local NHS Trust).
• The post-diagnostic resource pack from Autism Clinic London.
• Information about optional post-diagnostic support available from Autism Clinic London.
More information on our post-diagnostic services can be found here and on our Instagram feed.
